Ethereum has adopted EIP-8141, a proposal co-authored by Vitalik Buterin that introduces frame transactions, a new transaction type that can be subdivided into up to 64 programmable sub-units. Designated 0x06 and scheduled for the 2027 Hegota hard fork, this new format allows each frame to execute distinct operations in DEFAULT, VERIFY, or SENDER mode, with a cost of 12,000 gas plus 475 gas per frame. The proposal introduces new opcodes and enables gas sponsorship, ERC-20 fee payments, and post-quantum signature compatibility. It complements rather than replaces EIP-7702 and ERC-4337.
