OpenAI unveiled GPT-6 Astra on September 3, 2026, a model that scores 99.9 % on the ARC-AGI-3 benchmark, 96 % on GPQA Diamond (doctoral-level scientific reasoning) and 57.9 % on Terminal-Bench 4.0, outperforming GPT-5.6 Sol and Claude Fable 5.1 while costing roughly 63 % less per task than the latter. Astra becomes the first OpenAI model to reach the « Critical » threshold in cybersecurity under the company’s Preparedness Framework, reflecting its ability to identify zero-day vulnerabilities, which calls for enhanced safeguards in the deployed version. OpenAI secured 105 billion dollars in financing from Nvidia for a data center in Ohio, as the growing GPU and electricity demands of AI models intensify competition with Bitcoin miners for energy resources. The model is currently available to a limited number of organizations and will be accessible in the coming days to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users.
