Liverpool omits Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo from Champions League squad

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has left Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo out of the Champions League squad for the league phase, a decision forced by UEFA’s homegrown player rules. The club submitted a 22-player List A squad on September 3, 2025, selecting academy winger Rio Ngumoha instead of the Italian forward. UEFA regulations limit non-homegrown players to 17 out of 25 spots, compelling clubs to prioritize homegrown talent. Both Chiesa, who arrived from Juventus, and Endo, the Japanese midfielder signed from Stuttgart in 2023, fall into the non-homegrown category. Endo subsequently suffered a long-term injury after the registration window closed, leaving Liverpool unable to replace him under UEFA rules.
