Standard Chartered has launched deliverable spot trading in Bitcoin and Ethereum for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates, becoming the first globally systemically important bank to offer this service in the Gulf market. Eligible clients can buy and sell Bitcoin and Ether for immediate delivery through the bank’s electronic trading channels and foreign exchange interfaces. This offering expands on the bank’s existing UAE digital asset custody service, which launched in September 2024. Trades can be settled through the client’s custodian of choice, including Standard Chartered’s custody platform. The bank previously launched a similar institutional spot trading service in the United Kingdom in July 2025, becoming the first G-SIB to do so.
