Standard Chartered has launched spot Bitcoin and Ether trading for institutional clients in the United Arab Emirates, becoming the first major global bank to offer institutional access to spot cryptocurrency trading in the region. The London-headquartered bank operates through its entity regulated by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This offering also makes Standard Chartered the first Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB) to provide such a service in the region. The bank previously launched digital asset custody services in the UAE in September 2024, and entered a banking agreement with crypto exchange CoinMENA in June.
