David Schwartz, former Ripple CTO and XRP Ledger architect, publicly supported Tether in a legal dispute over the extrajudicial freezing of $42.4 million in USDT. The freeze was imposed on October 30, 2025 following a request from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) as part of an international pig-butchering fraud scheme. An official court order was issued only four months later, on February 19, 2026. Thai entrepreneurs filed a lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, claiming they acquired the tokens in good faith on the secondary market and demanding the assets be unfrozen along with compensation for lost interest income.
