Lazarus Group uses Hyperliquid to launder $30M – Regulatory concerns grow

Wallets linked to North Korea’s Lazarus Group have moved approximately $30 million through Hyperliquid using HyperUnit. In May 2024, blockchain investigator ZachXBT identified seven Bitcoin addresses holding about 891 BTC (approximately $61.8 million at the time) connected to the Lazarus Group, tracing more than $200 million in stolen cryptocurrency from over 25 hacks. The Bitcoin was subsequently converted into Ethereum and Solana, then bridged across Ethereum, Solana, and Tron networks, with portions ultimately directed to centralized exchanges such as KuCoin, LBank, and Kraken. This raises regulatory concerns because Lazarus is under U.S. sanctions by OFAC, while President Trump has expressed interest in bringing Hyperliquid into the United States in a compliant and legal manner.
