Indian PM Modi implores Putin to end Ukraine war amid U.S. tariff threat on Russian oil

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the Ukraine war during a meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, warning that each day of conflict pushes humanity backward. Russia plans massive strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure days after an attack on an ammunition warehouse killed 38 people. The U.S. House is expected to vote this month on a bill imposing up to 100% tariffs on the top five purchasers of Russian oil and gas, including India. Between April and July, Russian exports to India exceeded $34 billion, a nearly 60% increase year-over-year, with Russia supplying over 50% of India’s oil imports in June and July.
