Visa, Mastercard and Fiserv are among the founding members of the Agentic Payments Alliance (APA), a coalition of more than 25 organizations created to establish common standards for AI agent-driven payments. Rain, a stablecoin payment infrastructure provider, announced the formation of the alliance on August 18. McKinsey projects global agentic commerce activity could reach $3 to $5 trillion by 2030. The alliance’s initial focus areas include AI agent identity and authorization frameworks, shared research, fraud prevention, loyalty program integration, and regulatory advocacy. The APA’s collectively governed structure is designed to allow smaller players and new entrants to have meaningful input alongside industry giants.
