The police of Avon and Somerset in southwest England seized 20.21 BTC along with other crypto assets and bank funds worth 1.03 million pounds (approximately 1.4 million dollars). These assets were linked to darknet markets active between 2016 and 2019, specializing in drug trafficking and human trafficking. The individual targeted in the investigation, already convicted for money laundering, died before the confiscation procedure was completed. This case represents the largest seizure carried out by this jurisdiction since new ordinances came into effect in April 2024, allowing UK law enforcement to freeze and seize crypto assets without prior arrest. The recovered funds will be redirected to community programs and police services.
