The GnosisDAO community massively approved the transition of Gnosis Chain from an autonomous layer 1 blockchain to a rollup within the Ethereum Economic Zone, with 123,158 favorable votes against only 115 opposed out of a total of 123,425 GNO voted, well above the required quorum of 75,000. Gnosis Chain will abandon its own validator set to rely on Ethereum’s security, becoming the first network to deploy this experimental framework in production between late 2026 and early 2027. This transformation aims to solve the fragmentation problem of the layer 2 ecosystem, where each rollup operates largely in isolation with exchanges depending on bridges often targeted by hacks. L2Beat data shows that 22 Ethereum rollups currently secure 27.82 billion dollars, a considerable market that the EEZ intends to unify by enabling synchronous executions between smart contracts on different rollups.
