Mark Zuckerberg addresses Meta employees on organizational shifts after massive AI-driven layoffs

Mark Zuckerberg sent a company-wide memo to Meta employees in June 2026 acknowledging mistakes made during the AI transition. The company laid off approximately 8,000 employees in May 2026, about 10% of its global workforce, while simultaneously reassigning around 7,000 others into AI-related roles. An internal program called Project OT (Organization Transformation) contemplated reducing team sizes by up to 60%, but a second wave of cuts was cancelled just hours before execution on May 19, 2026. Meta has projected 125 to 145 billion dollars in capital expenditures for 2026, mostly earmarked for AI infrastructure and chips. Zuckerberg’s memo assured employees that no further company-wide layoffs are expected for the remainder of 2026.
