A Reuters poll of strategists and analysts conducted between August 12 and August 25 forecasts the Dow Jones Industrial Average will end 2026 at 54,500 points, up from a previous forecast of 52,500. The index already hit a record high of 54,744 on August 5, 2026, and was hovering around 53,577 to 53,624 in late August. Analysts point particularly to S&P 500 second-quarter earnings growth of 33.5% year-over-year, the strongest since 2021. The S&P 500 is also projected to finish the year at 7,900, roughly 3% above late August levels.
