In New Mexico, Oracle’s Project Jupiter, a $165 billion data center complex planned near the Mexican border, faces mounting opposition in a state suffering from persistent drought with its largest reservoir at just 1.3% capacity. A July Fox News poll shows 60% of Republicans and 53% of MAGA voters oppose building data centers in their area, and governors across party lines—including New York’s Kathy Hochul, Texas’s Greg Abbott and Pennsylvania’s Josh Shapiro—have taken steps to restrict or pause these developments.
