The Trump administration implemented new restrictions on federal student loans starting July 1, creating a funding gap for many students. Professional students in medicine, dentistry, or law can now borrow a maximum of $50,000 per year, up to a total of $200,000. Other graduate students face an annual limit of $20,500 and an aggregate limit of $100,000, compared to full cost of attendance coverage previously allowed. Lending experts expect more students to turn to private loans to fill this financial shortfall.
