CME Group builds marketplace to hedge AI risks with GPU futures contracts

CME Group, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, is partnering with Silicon Data to launch two Compute futures contracts tracking the hourly rental costs of Nvidia’s H100 and Blackwell B200 GPUs. These contracts, expected to debut on October 5, 2026 pending CFTC approval, would represent the first publicly tradable reference prices for AI compute costs. Each contract will represent one month of GPU rental and trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The goal is to enable AI companies to hedge against wild price swings in the GPU rental market and bring transparency to a sector where rental rates have historically been opaque and volatile.
