Apple lays off staffers ahead of CEO change

Apple has laid off roughly 200 employees in its Siri and VisionPro divisions, two of the company’s most troubled product areas. The cuts include eliminating a team working on games for the VisionPro headset and reducing a group producing 3D videos. Some affected positions were related to Siri features, as the digital assistant has struggled to match the capabilities of AI chatbots from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. These layoffs represent a tiny fraction of the company’s 166,000 full-time employees as of September 2025. The timing coincides with John Ternus taking over as CEO just over one week from now, suggesting the move is designed to let the new leader start with a cleaner slate.
