GE Vernova has unveiled a medium-voltage uninterruptible power supply designed to protect the electrical grid from consumption spikes caused by AI workloads. The device creates an electrical island that completely decouples a data center’s critical operations from the broader grid. AI data centers can swing their consumption between 20% and 80% of capacity in under one second, destabilizing turbines and grid frequency. GE Vernova’s data center-related orders exceeded $2 billion in 2025 and reached nearly $5 billion year-to-date in early 2026. The company projects a 2-3x increase in revenue per gigawatt thanks to this technology combined with innovations like solid-state transformers.
