Hossein Samsami, a member of Iran’s Economic Commission, described the current situation as an existential war requiring a fresh look at nuclear posture. These statements follow US and Israeli strikes targeting Iranian nuclear facilities in June 2025 and February 2026. Iran holds approximately 10 percent of the world’s proven oil reserves, and any escalation disrupting production or transit through the Strait of Hormuz would send crude prices surging.
