Canada announces retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods after trade talks break down

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Saturday that Canada would impose dollar-for-dollar tariffs on U.S. goods. These retaliatory measures come after trade talks between the two countries broke down late Friday, leading the United States to impose 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion in Canadian goods. The Canadian tariffs will take effect next month on the Tuesday after Labor Day. They will target sectors including steel, dairy, paper, electronics, appliances and agricultural equipment.
