Barclays is facing a timing challenge as several senior technology bankers departed the bank around 2023, notably moving to competitors like UBS, creating coverage gaps at a time when tech dealmaking is heating up. The bank announced on August 17, 2026 the appointment of Adeel Khan and Mike Joo as co-chief executives of the investment bank effective February 2027, reducing the leadership team from four to two heads. Kristin DeClark, Global Head of Technology Investment Banking, projected around 20 tech-related IPOs by the end of 2025, with recent IPOs posting aftermarket gains of 20-40% or more. Barclays is also implementing a £2 billion cost-reduction plan, using AI tools to facilitate job cuts and accelerate offshoring to lower-cost locations, particularly India.
