Romania destroyed a marine drone on Thursday that it accuses Russia of deploying near the Neptun Deep gas project in the Black Sea. Romanian F-16 fighter jets were scrambled after NATO authorization to protect hundreds of workers on the platform located approximately 99 miles off the coast. Romanian President Nicușor Dan strongly condemned the incident, calling it irresponsible on the part of the Russian Federation. Once operational in 2027, Neptun Deep will make Romania the largest natural gas producer in the European Union. The incident follows a series of airspace and maritime violations attributed to Russia in recent weeks.
