Chinese exports of yttrium oxide to the United States reached 29 metric tons in July 2026, the second-largest monthly volume since Beijing imposed export controls in April 2025. Permanent magnet exports followed a similar pattern, reaching 647 tons in the same month. These figures come as President Xi Jinping prepares for trade talks at the White House. Without these supplies, aerospace production lines would slow down, maintenance cycles would be delayed and costs would spike, as yttrium oxide is essential for thermal barrier coatings on jet engine turbine blades.
