SK Hynix, a major supplier of HBM memory chips for Nvidia’s AI-dedicated graphics cards, announced on August 19 the largest share buyback in South Korean history: 40 trillion won, approximately 28.6 billion dollars. The company will cancel nearly 24 million shares, representing 3.3% of its capital, between August 20 and November 19. This defensive operation follows a brutal drop in the share price, which had lost nearly half its value in two months amid a broader selloff in the memory sector. The day after the announcement, the stock surged more than 12% in Seoul. The shares are now accessible to French investors via an ADR listed on Nasdaq under the symbol SKHY.
