Mortgage rates held steady last week, providing little incentive for home buyers or current homeowners to contact their lenders. Total mortgage application volume was essentially flat, down 0.4% according to the MBA’s seasonally adjusted index. The average contract interest rate for 30-year fixed-rate mortgages remained unchanged at 6.77%. Refinance applications rose 2% for the week but were 18% lower than the same week last year. Mortgage rates turned slightly higher again to start this week.
