Stripe bets on AI agents as economic participants, not just cost-cutters

Stripe unveiled 288 new products at Stripe Sessions 2026 in late April, including Link wallets enabling AI agents to make purchases through one-time-use card authorizations without exposing full credentials. The company announced partnerships with Google Gemini, OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta to integrate payments directly into AI-powered applications. The streaming payments model relies on stablecoin micropayments on the Tempo blockchain with real-time per-token billing. Stripe currently processes approximately 4.8 million business-to-business payments daily through Stripe Treasury, and is strengthening fraud protection with Radar tools specifically calibrated for agent-led transactions. The Stripe Projects initiative aims to support operations for agent-led commerce.
