SoftBank Group slashes TSMC stake by 71%, continuing its semiconductor portfolio shakeup

SoftBank Group has cut its stake in Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. by 71.5 %, reducing its holding from approximately 1.985 million American Depositary Shares to 565 000, divesting a position valued at roughly $671 million as of March 31, 2026. This sale follows a broader strategy of semiconductor divestitures, with the group having already exited its entire Nvidia stake in November 2025 for approximately $5.8 billion. Ironically, SoftBank had accumulated around $330 million worth of TSMC shares throughout 2025 before proceeding with this major sale. The impact on TSMC’s share price should remain limited given the company’s market capitalization, which exceeds $800 billion. The 565 000 ADS retained by SoftBank represent approximately $190 million at current trading levels.
