President Donald Trump signed an executive order on August 13 imposing tariffs of up to 100% on imported drones and their components. A tiered structure applies based on drone size, capability, and country of origin: 10% for the United Kingdom, 15% for the European Union, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Liechtenstein, 25% for smaller drones, and up to 100% for larger autonomous systems and critical components including docking stations. The tariffs are set to take effect on September 3, 2026, with some component tariffs not taking effect until February 9, 2027. Industries including agriculture, construction, energy, real estate, and film production that rely heavily on drone technology will face significantly higher costs.
