The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) will hold an open meeting Friday to propose new rules establishing a tailored regime for certain investment contract offerings involving crypto assets. This move follows the Senate’s failure to vote on the CLARITY Act before its five-week summer recess, raising doubts about whether the landmark crypto bill can become law this year. Senate Republicans plan a cloture vote on September 15, but disagreements over ethics restrictions, stablecoin rewards and enforcement powers remain unresolved. SEC Chair Paul Atkins is keeping rulemaking as a fallback if Congress fails to advance the CLARITY Act.
