OpenAI published on August 3, 2026 a detailed rebuttal to Apple’s trade secrets lawsuit, including redacted internal communications that it claims demonstrate the absence of wrongdoing. Apple had filed its 41-page complaint on July 10, 2026, in the US District Court for the Northern District of California, targeting notably Tang Yew Tan, now OpenAI’s Chief Hardware Officer, and accusing the company of systematically recruiting its employees to obtain their confidential hardware knowledge. On the same day OpenAI released its rebuttal, Apple sought a preliminary injunction against several former employees, while OpenAI filed a motion to dismiss on August 6, 2026.
