New Bitcoin Fork Already Deemed Failure

Share

A new Bitcoin fork based on the BIP-110 proposal split from the main chain at block 961,632. The BIP-110 branch is currently 48 blocks behind Bitcoin’s main chain and producing blocks at an average interval of approximately 6.9 hours instead of the normal 10 minutes. Only 2.6% of miners supported the proposal, well below the threshold needed for meaningful adoption. Major figures in the sector like Adam Back and Michael Saylor have called the fork a failure, predicting it will stall into irrelevance. BIP-110 aims to restrict arbitrary non-financial data in Bitcoin transactions, but Bitcoin Core developers increased the OP_RETURN limit from 83 to 100,000 bytes in 2025, contrasting with this restrictive proposal.
