71.9% of the 1,539 tokens that have been in the Top 100 cryptocurrencies are no longer trading, according to a study by CryptoRank published on August 4. Out of the 100 projects in the July 2021 Top 100, only 41 remained in the ranking 5 years later, 46 had fallen out with a median decline of 93% in market cap, and 13 had disappeared entirely. Theta Network dropped from 6.35 billion to 136 million dollars, EOS from 3.88 billion to 108 million, and Tezos from 2.59 billion to 239 million. The median lifespan of a token is 2 years and 4 months, with 62% disappearing within 5 years. CoinGecko recorded 11.6 million tokens that became inactive in 2025 alone.
