FIFA members back Infantino after $20B commercial venture collapses

FIFA proposed creating a commercial subsidiary called FIFA Forward Enterprise, valued at $20 billion, which would have allowed private investors to acquire up to 20% minority stakes in the entity. The plan offered each of FIFA’s 211 member associations a one-time payment of $20 million, funded by a goal of raising up to $4.2 billion in outside capital. UEFA and several national federations opposed the proposal, warning that private capital would shift incentives away from sport development toward return on investment. The FFE proposal was abandoned on August 5, 2026, less than two weeks after it was introduced, with FIFA issuing an apology for how the plan was handled. Despite the collapse, Gianni Infantino retained the support of senior FIFA members following an emergency meeting in Morocco.
