SpaceX unlocks $100B in shares, stock remains stable as lockup expiration defies gravity

SpaceX unlocked approximately 911.5 million newly tradable shares worth roughly $100 billion. The August 6 lockup expiration, the first major one since the record-breaking June 2026 IPO, more than doubled the public float from fewer than 280 million to over 1.1 billion shares available for trading. The stock held steady thanks to strong Q2 earnings and a staggered unlock schedule implemented by the company. By December, up to 40% of total shares could be unlocked, though the largest insider positions, including those of CEO Elon Musk, remain locked up for a longer period. For crypto markets, stable SPCX stock reduces the likelihood that Musk or other SpaceX insiders need to liquidate digital asset positions to rebalance portfolios.
