SpaceX and Tesla are jointly building the Terafab facility in Grimes County, Texas, with an initial stated investment of $16.8 billion. The initial phase could reach $55 billion, with total project expenditures potentially scaling to $119 billion. The facility could span up to 100 million square feet, dwarfing the Pentagon by a factor of fifteen. Texas approved a 35-year tax abatement in exchange for SpaceX investing a minimum of $5 billion by 2030 and creating 1,800 full-time equivalent jobs by 2035. The project remained in pre-construction phase as of August 2026.
