Sam Blackshear, co-founder and chief technology officer of Mysten Labs, is leaving the company to join Anthropic as part of its defensive security research team. He wants to return to hands-on technical work while addressing cybersecurity challenges as AI reshapes the balance between attackers and defenders. Blackshear is best known for creating Move, the smart-contract language originally developed for Meta’s Libra/Diem blockchain project. Evan Cheng, CEO of Mysten Labs, will assume responsibility for the company’s technical direction following Blackshear’s departure, while Blackshear will remain an advisor and support the Move Foundation to advance the development of the Move programming language.
