Five men have been convicted of false imprisonment and blackmail after ambushing two French cryptocurrency millionaires and holding them for 52 hours in an East London flat last July. The victims, who did not testify out of fear, transferred $30,000 of the $150,000 demanded by their captors. They were beaten, bound and had boiling water poured over them, with the prosecutor describing it as methodical torture. Their lifestyles, widely published on social media, allegedly drew the gang’s attention. Three of the five convicted men had previous convictions for manslaughter, armed robbery and possessing a handgun with ammunition.
