Crypto Taxation: France Set to Exchange Investor Data Worldwide Through CARF

France signed the multilateral agreement on the Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework (CARF) on November 26, 2024 and must authorize its ratification through a bill presented on July 27. This framework will enable automatic exchange of tax data on crypto-assets with signatory countries beyond the European Union, following initial collection via DAC8 since January 1, 2026. Crypto asset service providers must collect their clients’ identity, tax residence, and tax identification number. According to the OECD, 47 jurisdictions plan to launch the first CARF exchanges as early as 2027, followed by 28 countries in 2028, with the United States only announcing implementation in 2029.
