Leonardo’s new CEO Lorenzo Mariani told CNBC he expects to pursue further acquisitions to support long-term growth as European defense spending accelerates. The Italian group completed the 1.6-billion-euro acquisition of Iveco Defence Vehicles in March and its U.S. subsidiary Leonardo DRS agreed to buy Raft for $450 million to expand its AI and mission software capabilities. Leonardo reported a record order backlog of 59 billion euros in the second quarter, up 30% year-on-year, with a 45% rise in new orders in the first half. The group raised its full-year guidance, now forecasting EBITDA of 2.21 billion euros and new orders of 28.2 billion euros.
