NYSE-listed AI company Vida Global (NYSE American: VIDA), based in Austin, Texas, has started paying some employees in bitcoin via the Lightning Network. The initiative came after an employee in Argentina requested to be paid in bitcoin due to challenges with their local currency. To implement this system, Vida Global partnered with infrastructure company Voltage, which handles the conversion and delivery of bitcoin to employees. The company does not hold any bitcoin on its balance sheet: it pays in US dollars, Voltage converts the amount, and Vida’s books remain denominated in dollars.
