The South Korean KOSPI index plummeted 44% in just 40 days since its all-time high on June 19, 2026, erasing approximately $2 trillion in market capitalization. Leveraged x2 ETFs on stocks such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, which represented over 70% of daily trading volume, amplified speculation and forced liquidations. The Finance Ministry announced a stabilization plan and Minister Koo Yun Cheol offered a public apology. Despite this historic crash, the index still shows a positive performance of +27% since the beginning of 2026. For comparison, Bitcoin took approximately 4 months to drop 52%, while the KOSPI lost 44% in just 40 days.
