The Cardano Foundation announced on July 28 a partnership with Reef Data eG, a German cooperative that plans to pool members’ personal data, license it to businesses and distribute royalties back to contributors. Cardano’s Reeve system records payment flows and royalty distributions, while personal data stays off-chain and is anonymized directly on users’ devices. The personal data monetization market is expected to grow from $3.9 to $5.3 billion currently to between $16.3 and $29.5 billion within seven to eight years, according to multiple research firms. In the worst-case scenario, a member could earn roughly $1.25 per year; in the most optimistic scenario, approximately $30 per year, split among two million active members. The cooperative has not specified whether it will seek registration on the EU data intermediary list, and its on-device anonymization claims remain unverified.
