The Cardano community is celebrating the sixth anniversary of the Shelley upgrade, which introduced staking and delegation to the network in July 2020. The network currently has 2,882 stake pools with 21.56 billion ADA in live stake. In Q1 2021, stake pool operators began producing 100% of new blocks. Cardano is now working on its biggest scaling upgrade called Ouroboros Leios, which targets a five to twenty times increase in base layer throughput capacity with a mainnet hard fork planned for later in 2026.
