Russias Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that it has indicted Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, for aiding terrorism and issued an international arrest warrant against him. Authorities accuse the entrepreneur of failing to remove channels used by Ukrainian intelligence services as well as terrorist and extremist organizations. Pavel Durov, born in Russia but holding French and Emirati passports, is already under judicial supervision in France following his arrest in Paris in August 2024. This action is part of Russias intensified crackdown on the internet since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, as authorities promote a national application called MAX to replace blocked messaging services.
