FIFA plans to sell a stake in its commercial subsidiary FIFA Forward Enterprise, valuing its commercial rights at $20 billion, with an investment of up to $4.2 billion led by Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Capital, alongside Apollo Sports Capital. The deal would increase funding for FIFA’s 211 member associations from $8 million to $20 million per year starting next year, with FIFA projecting 7% annual revenue growth for 2027-2030. UEFA strongly opposes the operation, calling it an assault on football and viewing it as a shift of power from European to global governance, with one insider close to the deal estimating Europe would be leaving $1.1 billion on the table. Gianni Infantino would become commissioner of this new commercial entity, with investors holding only a minority stake and no operational role.
