SEC Chairman Says He’s ‘Committed’ to Helping Advance Crypto Clarity Act

Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Paul Atkins has expressed his support for the cryptocurrency market structure bill, known as the Clarity Act. Appointed by President Trump and sworn in as SEC chairman last year, Atkins has taken a much more crypto-friendly approach than his predecessor Gary Gensler. The bill, which passed the House of Representatives last year with strong bipartisan support, has been stalled since early 2026 due to concerns over stablecoin yield and ethics language. Major financial institutions like Fidelity and Goldman Sachs support the legislation, while an updated version banning government officials from issuing or promoting cryptocurrency was introduced last week. Lawmakers hope for passage before Congress departs for August recess.
