Johnson Controls introduces absorption chiller guide for AI data centers, cutting cooling power by over 90%

Johnson Controls has introduced an absorption chiller guide for AI data centers, enabling up to 97 MW of additional cooling capacity while slashing chiller electricity consumption by more than 90%. A single absorption chiller can deliver 2 MW of cooling capacity while drawing roughly 25 kW of electrical input, compared to over 500 kW for a conventional electric chiller. This technology harvests waste heat to drive the cooling process without drawing from the grid. The industrial giant (NYSE: JCI), which has been manufacturing YORK absorption chillers since 1960, is targeting gigawatt-class facilities that AI companies are racing to build. This guide is the third installment in Johnson Controls’ Thermal Management Reference Design Guide Series.
