In Brazil’s Paraná state, ten dairy cows have been tokenized on the B3 Stock Exchange to serve as collateral for a loan of nearly 20,000 dollars granted to small-scale farmers. The operation, led by agtech company Cowmed, uses the Smarty Collar, a connected device with artificial intelligence that monitors each animal’s health and location in real time, preventing collateral fraud. Cowmed currently monitors approximately 100,000 dairy cows across more than 1,000 farms, with an estimated value exceeding 395 million dollars. The company anticipates that up to 20 percent of its network could adopt this model, unlocking approximately 77.6 million dollars in new agricultural credit. This real-world asset (RWA) tokenization system could be replicated in other emerging countries, where the global financing gap for small businesses reaches 5.7 trillion dollars.
