Naver, South Korea’s largest internet company, plans to repurchase and cancel approximately 1 trillion won ($745 million) in treasury stock, more than double its 2024 buyback program. The company’s CEO has personally invested 700 million won in Naver shares, signaling confidence in the ongoing strategy. This move is part of a major merger project between Naver Financial and Dunamu, the operator of Upbit, South Korea’s dominant cryptocurrency exchange, with a transaction value of approximately 15.1 trillion won ($10 billion). Due to tightening crypto regulations in South Korea, the completion of this merger has been delayed until December 31, 2026.
