Over 90 banks and credit unions in North Dakota have been using the Roughrider Coin since October 1, a dollar-backed stablecoin operating on the Solana blockchain. This token, reserved for participating banking institutions, serves exclusively for interbank transfers, enabling near real-time settlement compared to several hours or even the next business day for traditional wire transfers. The Bank of North Dakota sponsors this project, VersaBank USA handles issuance, custody and reserve management, while Fiserv connects everything through its Digital Asset Platform and Fireblocks provides security infrastructure. Key figures remain undisclosed: neither settlement times, transaction volumes, nor reserve amounts have been communicated.
